Twenty-five years ago, one man asked a simple question: What if vulnerable children could become the catalyst for transforming entire communities?
That question led Barry Childs to found Africa Bridge in 2000.
Born in Tanzania and having lived and worked across Africa, Europe, and the United States, Barry could have chosen a comfortable retirement after a successful corporate career. Instead, he chose a different path: helping communities create their own future.
From the beginning, Africa Bridge was built on a belief that still guides us today:
Lasting change starts with people.
The results have been extraordinary.
Families eating three meals a day increased from 11% to 96%. Children sleeping in beds rose from 13% to 87%. School attendance, nutrition, health, and economic opportunity improved dramatically.
Today, as we celebrate more than two decades of impact, we remain committed to the same vision that inspired Barry and a small team of colleagues in 2000:
A future where vulnerable children are not defined by poverty, but become leaders of thriving communities.
This is not charity.
This is partnership.
